Philander Smith Men's Basketball Schedule Released

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas  --  Preparing to make a run at a fourth consecutive NAIA tournament appearance, Philander Smith College head men's basketball coach released the Panthers' 2015-16 schedule.

Philander Smith's 28-game schedule features 12 games in the tough Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, along with 10 games against teams who made the postseason in 2015.

Philander Smith opens regular season play Nov. 3 in Mims Gymnasium facing off against Paul Quinn College. After a quick road trip to Arkadelphia, Ark. to face Ouachita Baptist on Nov. 5, the Panthers return to Little Rock for a Homecoming game against Fisk University on Nov. 7.

After Homecoming, Philander Smith goes on the road for three straight games, visiting Lyon College (Nov. 10), Mid America Christian (Nov. 14), and Bacone College (Nov. 17).

The Panthers finish the month with home contests against Ozark Christian on Nov. 21 and Lyon College on Nov. 24 before participation in the Fifth Annual Memphis HBCU Classic on Nov. 28.

PSC plays six games in December, five against teams who played in the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Championship last season. After visting Dallas to take on Paul Quinn on Dec. 8, the Panthers face Mid America Christian at home on Dec. 12 followed by a road matchup with Campbellsville University on Dec. 15. Philander Smith finishes 2015 with a home-and-home series with Columbia College wrapped around a trip to Oklahoma City University on Dec. 22.

The new year tips off for the Panthers on Jan. 2 with the conference opener against Edward Waters at Mims Gymnasium followed by another home contest against Dillard on Jan. 4.

Philander Smith goes on the road for four straight begining with Southern University at New Orleans (Jan. 9) and followed by Xavier (Jan. 11), Edward Waters (Jan. 16), and Talladega (Jan. 18).

The Panthers play their final home games of the season starting with a matchup with Xavier on Jan. 23. SUNO comes to Mims on Jan. 30, with Tougaloo (Feb. 1) and Talladega (Feb. 6) rounding out the home slate.

Feb. 15 sees Philander Smith in Nashville at Fisk, with road games against Dillard (Feb. 20) and Tougaloo (Feb. 27) to close the regular season.

For the third consecutive season, the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Basketball Championships will be held in New Orleans, La., with the winner recieving the GCAC's automatic bid to the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

The Panthers finished the 2014-15 season with a record of 20-10, 9-5 in the GCAC. Philander Smith has a made the postseason in each of the past three seasons and has a combined record of 65-30 during that span.
