No panic for Hampton U. women after recent losses

HAMPTON, Virginia — Two conference losses barely cause a ripple on most campuses, where outside of maybe the University of Connecticut women, the grind of league play takes a toll on everyone.

Hampton University’s dominance of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference took a hit in the past two weeks. The Lady Pirates’ three-year conference winning streak ended, and they’ve lost twice in the past three games, heading into Saturday’s 4 p.m. meeting against Maryland Eastern Shore at the HU Convocation Center.

“We didn’t push the panic button,” HU coach David Six said. “You can’t push the panic button. It happens. You coach long enough, these things happen.”

Rarely at Hampton. The Lady Pirates set the bar in MEAC play under Six, with an unprecedented five consecutive conference tournament titles and NCAA tournament berths.
