CIAA Commissioner talks tournament, moving headquarters to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina -- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams tells WBTV she is feeling good about this year's basketball tournament, which starts February 23.

This year CIAA is in charge of the hotels. It has reserved a 3,000 room block. CIAA is telling fans to go to the organization's website to book a room. The hotels that are participating have agreed to keep prices under control.

The commissioner says so far about 70% of the rooms are gone. CIAA wants more rooms booked.

"We're hoping in the next week," the commissioner said. "We will have a very clear understanding what the room block looks like, so we can use that as a template moving forward."

McWilliams tells WBTV the challenge is getting fans to go to CIAA website to book a room. The other challenge is working with the participating hotels. She is confidant those rooms will be sold.

She is also feeling good about ticket sales.
